I do pitching for Alice and while I know it's different, it helps me to say I will do 10 a day and dedicate two hours to it. @Izzy: As far as pitching goes, the process of putting together a cover letter — with all the research that entails for me — generally helps me to determine whether or not a story has legs. And that’s enough for me. I pitch and wait. I also love personal essays, though and, despite how frustrating it can be to have trouble placing one, I always write the full essay first and then submit it.
