This is the first time I read about ways to marketing an ebook. I am not promoting an ebook but I will soon and this is going to be useful. Thanks.

These are all really good tips. I will have to look into mail chimp, it seems pretty promising to try out for free to begin with. For me the hardest part is the social media aspect...it takes a lot of time and perseverance!

Steph, I'm sure your eBook will be fab! There's definitely a need for it.

I wanted to add two more ideas I had after sending you this post:

1) Affiliates. It takes some work to set up, but the great thing is that you only pay when they make a sale (whereas ads are often paid on a monthly basis or by the click). This is more involved than I want to do right now, but I may explore affiliates in the future.

2) Your alma mater. I emailed one of my former profs in Emerson's Professional Studies program, and he was pretty excited, so he passed it along to some of my classmates and gave me a few other suggestions for promoting within the Emerson community.

I'd like to thank Susan once again for creating such a brilliant post for Freelancedom. Now I wait with bated breath for book launch day.

I'm also now feeling a bit of performance anxiety. How am I supposed to follow this post??

Excellent. This has really inspired me and reignited my interests! I've had an ebook and related products on the brain for awhile, but know I'm a year out from that. In the past, a year would have seemed like 7, dog years. I would have given up in month 2. Now I'm trying to be deliberate, create enough content and momentum to start a newsletter, then some guest posting, then introduce a free ebook, slowly build up a loyal following based around valued content, then paid products.

I really admire how you've built a following and love your content! (directed to both Susan and Steph :-)

Steph, I just had my first ever guest-post yesterday, too...

Except really way not as cool as this one because...

Susan, this is a such a fantastic example of GOOD promotion, using a guest-post on another blog in your niche, and providing actual HELPFUL information as part of your own promotion to the point where I would actually want to buy your eBook just because you seem so knowledgeable (plus warm n fuzzy doesn't hurt, either!)

Awesome job, guys!
